- Xbox Insiders can start testing the Xbox Cloud Gaming beta which allows you to take your Xbox games with you and load them up from any device
- The platform is another foray by Microsoft into virtual computers, only this time it’s Xbox that will allow you to play the games
- You still need to own the games that you want to play before you can benefit from Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox makes a leap forward in cloud gaming as the namesake service’s beta arrives, available to Xbox Insiders.
Xbox Cloud Gaming Enters Beta Tests
More good news for Xbox Insider members is coming in as the beta version of Xbox Cloud Gaming is finally available. With it, Microsoft is expanding into the cross-platform experience, bringing Xbox players a way to access their games on a PC by simply launching the Xbox app on their computers.
The app will also turn phones and tablets into gaming devices that support Xbox games. In a statement, the company outlined its argument for going ahead with the platform: “It’s our continued goal to make gaming available to all players around the world, wherever you are, on the devices you want.”
The Xbox Cloud Gaming is beta is still limited-access only with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members the only ones who can access the option. However, this offers a powerful alternative to anyone who wants to take their Xbox experience along with them but doesn’t necessarily want to carry their console around.
However, there are still a few prerequisites. For starters, the Xbox app must be installed as previously explained. Also, a dedicated Xbox controller must be used and all players must have the membership pass.
Easy and Swift Onboarding with Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox has kept in mind the onboarding process which can be a little daunting to someone who is completely new to the idea of cross-platform play. To this end, Xbox Cloud Gaming will come with many built-in pointers to make for a smooth entry into the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience.
While this constitutes a big leap forward for cloud gaming and Xbox’s particular software, there has been no official date announced as to when the service may become fully available to all players. Microsoft is not new to the idea of cloud gaming solutions.
In fact, the company has already experimented with Stadia, a cloud platform that launches a virtual computer that carries the weight of any game you want to try. Stadia comes with a monthly subscription and a one-month free trial that allows you to enjoy some excellent games.
Just like with Stadia though, before you can play any games, you must purchase them. Some will be available for free, too.
