The Origin Series Sets off a Line of Events

Riot Games has once again shown interest in supporting League of Legends: Wild Rift. Understanding the growing popularity of mobile titles such as PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile, the has announced the first tournament series for its own mobile entry. It will be called the Origin Series and will hold its first qualifier in the June 5-6 Weekend.

The Origin Series will cover a variety of regions, namely Europe, Turkey, the Middle East, the Commonwealth of the Independent States, and North Africa. Once the qualifiers are done, the main tournament will be held in an offline format this August with the finals in September. The winners will take home a chunk of the $300,000 prize pool.

Those who are interested in participating can register for the first qualifier. The registrations opened yesterday and will close on June 1.

Wild Rift’s head of esports for EU and MENA, Hans Christian Duerr, shared his excitement about the series’ launch:

“We’re excited to launch the first League of Legends: Wild Rift intercontinental esports circuit for Europe, MENA, CIS, and Turkey, building on the momentum and hype displayed by our dedicated players and fans. League of Legends: Wild Rift Origin Series is set to bring mobile esports to the next level and shine a light on new talents yet to be discovered.”

Riot’s Plans for Wild Rift

It is now clear as day that Riot Game didn’t intend Wild Rift to be merely a mobile spin-off to the company’s magnum opus League of Legends. With all the support that went into the game, it is for sure that Riot intends it to become a major name in the esports world.

In the very first year of release Wild Rift quickly got a wide array of tournaments, including the announcement of a world championship. Moreover, Riot’s mobile entry will notably be played as a medal sport during the SEA Games this year.

In the meantime Riot is planning to hold more regional events in the summer.
