- We are well into the League of Legends World Championship 2023
- However, Briar has not been seen played in the event so far
- This is because she is not even available for picking in the version of the game
In order to maintain the competitive integrity of the international tournament, Riot Games has disabled Briar from being picked in LoL Worlds 2023.
Briar Is Not Present
League of Legends fans are enthralled by the currently ongoing World Championship 2023 in Seoul, South Korea. The top teams of the world are duking it out in the Summoner’s Rift in an attempt to win glory and a piece of the $2.25 million prize pool. Just as the teams and players, the in-game champions also play a huge role in the story and we have already seen names like Kaisa, Rakan, and K’Sante be picked a lot.
However, one particular champion has not been seen at all during the event, and that is the character that has been most recently added to the game – Briar, the Restrained Hunger. Her lack is so prominent that it has many fans wondering if she is banned from the Worlds 2023. The short answer to this is – yes.
Briar is not available for play at Worlds 2023, which is in keeping with policies that Riot Games has established previously. They are there in order to maintain the competitive integrity of international tournaments including Worlds and Mid-Season Invitational (MSI).
According to Riot Games’ official rulings, “New champions and VGUs (Visual and Gameplay Update) must be enabled for playoffs in all four of the top regions in order to be playable at the next international tournament.” Considering this rule, it should not be a surprise that Briar is unavailable at Worlds 2023. A similar fate was shared by Yuumi and Milio who were disabled for MSI 2023.
Although some fans might be disappointed with this decision, they would have perhaps not seen much of her at Worlds 2023, even if she was enabled. This is because she’s the newest addition to the LoL champion roster and many of the pros might not feel confident enough in using her a lot.
Furthermore, she’s had a somewhat troublesome start in the game, as her win rate dropped to an almost record-breaking 30% at one point. Riot made some big changes to the chap, which eventually resulted in Briar’s win rate remarkably passing 50%, but considering this was less than a month ago, she still needs more time to fix her reputation.
Fans will simply have to wait until the next competitive LoL season of they want to see pros playing Briar 0on the big stage.
