  • 3D animator shows incredible WoW render
  • It shows what the game would look like with updated graphics
  • Many seem to like a potential WoW visual update

A Reddit user used the Unreal Engine to try and reimagine what World of Warcraft might look like with more modern Overwatch-like graphics.

Fan Renders a New Look For Wow

World of Warcraft is one of the most played games in the last 20 years. It was released way back in 2004 and in terms of visuals, this shows. Although the game has that mid-2000s unique to Blizzard aesthetic, many players prefer the classic textures over what modern-day games have. To be fair, WoW has received many visual upgrades during the years, yet has still managed to keep an older more classic appearance.

Despite Blizzard quietly dropping new Warcraft announcements, many fans still wonder what WoW would look like if it was more updated looks. One Reddit user going by the name of todtodson decided to experiment a bit. They used a 3D rendering in Unreal Engine to show how WoW would look like with graphics similar to that of Overwatch.

Many Fans Want an Update Wow Look

Posted on the WoW subreddit, todtodson’s video shows a render of Mulgore & Thunder Bluff with revamped textures that look like they belong to an Overwatch map. To be fair, one could even make a link to Fortnite’s looks. Both WoW and Overwatch are made by Blizzard, but with a 12-year difference between them, the visuals clearly look very different.

Todtodson’s post garnered a lot of attention, quickly gaining thousands of likes. Commenters seem impressed overall, with one writing “Man I’d love nothing more than WoW 2 with a modern engine. It would be glorious. Don’t even change the core gameplay. Just balance things out and let’s start fresh.” “Seriously. I’d f**king love some kind of single player game inside of the WoW universe,” wrote another.  Of course, there were those who preferred the game’s original art style, with one commenter saying “Gross, I love wow for the exact style it has with colours.”

Although some fans like the classic WoW art style, most of the post’s comments seem to echo a larger desire for a more updated WoW look. With Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard, there is a possibility that changes to the game will come with the change of leadership. But until then, fans will most likely have to stick to World of Warcraft’s classic look.
