The Russian Team Gathers Momentum
Russian esports federation Virtus.pro’s Dota 2 lineup has just engraved its name in the game’s competitive history as they finished a second straight undefeated run. The feat was achieved by VP’s victory over Winstrike during the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit regional league for the Commonwealth of Independent States region.
Virtus.pro currently has a 14-2 score – achievement is not only remarkable but it immediately crowned the team as the current best in the CIS region. Not only that, but VP’s impressive result has instantly qualified them for the playoffs of the season’s second Major: the WePlay AniMajor in Kiev.
Virtus.pro is currently making up for the seventh-place it tied with Vici Gaming during the turbulent Singapore Major. The former team seems hellbent on climbing the ranks of the DPC. As VP reaped those victories, the team shared a light-hearted meme to celebrate:
The Incoming Major: A Major Challenge for VP
During the Major in Kiev, the Russian team will be facing Alliance, Team Spirit, and fifteen other teams, judging on what was announced by the WePlay Esports tournament organizers. Alliance will be representing Europe, as the team qualified for the second Major just as analysts had predicted. Team Spirit on the other hand is fellow CIS players that will be challenging Virtus’ current domination. Spirit also performed exceptionally with only one loss (against Virtus Pro) for the season. Depending on how the ongoing events unfold, AS Monaco Gambit may also enter the fray.
With the regional leagues are nearing their respective ends, we will soon learn which other teams will be playing for the second Major’s prize pool of $500,000.
The Russian team recently renewed its partnership deal with the esports bookmaker Parimatch and is in no lack of support. It’s exciting to see where Virtus.pro’s ambition will place the team in the WePlay AniMajor rankings and the DPC rankings by extension.
The WePlay AniMajors will take place between June 2 and June 13 in WePlay Esports’ Arena in Kiev, Ukraine.
