As the year is closing off, so does an era for Version1’s VALORANT division with the departure of Loic “effys” Sauvageau.
Effys and Version1 Part Ways
Version 1 is now officially left without a VALORANT roster as the last player to be under contract with the organization, Canadian player Loic “effys” Sauvageau has left. V1 announced yesterday that the player is officially entering free agency status and it seems the organization is now ready for a new era in competitive VALORANT.
Effys’ departure from V1 marks an end to the organization’s current string of players leaving. Over the past few months, most of the organization’s players have moved to other organizations. Coach Ian “Immi” Harding and players Erik Penny and Maxim “wippie” Shepelev joined G2 alongside former Sentinels superstar duo Michael “dapr” Gulino and Shahzeb “ShahZam” Khan.
The only player to stick around for longer, aside from effys, was Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro. He had a short stint with Sentinels at the 2022 NA Last Chance Qualifier and then briefly returned to V1. However, he eventually joined Cloud9 at the beginning of this offseason alongside superstar Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker.
What Are Version1’s Future Plans?
The organization remained in the top echelon of the region for two years. Despite not being as popular as other orgs competing in NA VALORANT, V1 is one of just a few organizations to have reached an international VCT event. It started 2022 with a first-place finish at the NSG: Winter Championship – Last Chance Qualifier, but everything started to fall from there. The team did not manage to match the same performance during the rest of the year.
Considering all of its players have now left and V1 not seeming to be looking for new members, it seems the organization will now turn its attention to its VersionX Game Changers roster. The all-female roster might be renewed with an all-star composition if certain rumors turn out to be true. V1 is allegedly looking toward some of the most talented players in NA: Melanie “meL” Campone, Alexis Guarrasi, Ava “florescent” Eugene, Nicole “Noia” Tierce, and Sarah Simpson.
Meanwhile, effys seems to be leaving the organization in high spirits. Can't express how grateful I am to have played under such an amazing org for so long, thank you for everything,” the player wrote on Twitter, adding that he is looking for a support spot in a new team.
However, Version1 is yet to officially announce its plans for 2023. A spokesperson for the organization said that plans are still being worked upon and fans should await updates in the upcoming weeks.
