Valorant Champions 2021: Here’s What We Know

in Valorant
November 1, 2021
  • Valorant’s first world championship will be held this December in Berlin
  • Sixteen teams from all around the world will compete for the title of world champion
  • Players and viewers are still waiting for information on the event’s format and prize pool

Sixteen teams from all around the world will be battling in Valorant’s first world championship this December.

When What and Where of the Championship?

Riot’s popular FPS has been growing rapidly with the studio’s constant care and regular updates, and it is now time for the hit game to have its first world championship. Teams who have competed and succeeded in three different stages in the VCT (Valorant Champions Tour) with multiple Challengers and two international Masters competitions will face off at the end of the year to try and win the world title.

The Valorant Champions 2021 will take place between December 2 and 12. Previously there were rumors that the location of the event would be in Los Angeles, however, Riot confirmed that the competition will take place in Berlin, which was also the site of the Masters 3 tournament. Riot decided to host the championship at a European city because of Europe's more open travel policies, making it easier for teams to come from all around the world.

Speaking of teams, there will be sixteen of them, all coming from different parts of the world, to compete for the chance of becoming Valorant’s first true world champion.

Regarding the prize pool – it is rumored that it will be in the millions, however as of the writing of this article, the exact amount and how it will be distributed, is yet unknown. Another important thing that is yet to be announced is the exact format and structure of the tournament.

These Are the Teams Qualified for the Championship

There will be sixteen teams from all over the globe competing in this year’s grand event. Every slot is now filled in, with the last team being the North American Cloud9, who narrowly missed disqualification, but managed to get a spot after winning Masters 2: Reykjavik, by winning enough circuit points to get into the event.

Another notable team qualification would be that of Gambit Esports, who managed to win a direct invite to the tournament for winning VCT Stage 3 Masters Berlin. It seems that team's strategy to rely on its map knowledge and plays cautiously, gathering intel before making a move has paid off well, and will be put to the test this December.

And here are the challengers:

  • Gambit Esports
  • Sentinels
  • Team Envy
  • Acend
  • Fnatic
  • KRU Esports
  • Team Vikings
  • Keyd Stars
  • Vision Strikers
  • Crazy Rcoon
  • X10 Esports
  • Team Secret
  • Cloud Blue
  • Team Liquid
  • Furia

Valorant’s fast growth has spawned a large community of players, eager to show off their skills. The game has quickly become a staple in esports and with this tournament and inclusion of all-female teams, we are set to see the competitive Valorant scene grow further in the future.
