Team Envy’s VALORANT Roster Rebrands to OpTic Gaming

in Valorant
February 11, 2022
  • Envy’s VALORANT team will now compete under OpTic Gaming’s flag
  • This follows a trend of mergers set by the two organization’s merger back in November
  • “OpTic got me into esports. Glad to be representing them now,” says duelist Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker

One of North America’s biggest esports organizations Envy rebranded its VALORANT team to compete under the OpTic Gaming banner.

Envy’s Roster is Now under OpTic’s Banner

Following the merger between Envy and OpTic last November, the former has gradually been rebranding certain parts of itself. Coinciding with this trend, Envy has recently announced that its VALORANT team will not participate under OpTic’s flag in tournaments. This news comes just as Envy is preparing to play in the VCT NA Stage 1 Challengers Main Event this weekend.

“OpTic got me into esports. Glad to be representing them now,” tweeted star duelist Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker. Currently, all former Envy players have changed their Twitter information adding the OpTic tag to their names. The team change also marks the return of coach Chet “Chet” Singh, who previously coached OpTic’s CS:GO team.

Currently, OpTic’s VALORANT roster looks like this:

  • Pujan “FNS” Mehta
  • Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen
  • Victor “Victor” Wong
  • Austin “crashies” Roberts
  • Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker
  • Chet “Chet” Singh (Coach)

The roster has not undergone changes since VCT Champions last December. However, the team has consistently made deep runs in playoff brackets in VCT tournaments throughout the entire year.

OpTic Enters Competitive VALORANT

Over the last ten years, OpTic has established quite the name for itself in the FPS space. Because of this, OpTic absorbing Envy’s VALORANT team should come to no one’s surprise as the former is trying to carve itself a space in Riot’s shooter. A similar merger happened to Envy’s Call of Duty League team — the Dallas Empire. It rebranded after the merger last November, followed by Envy’s Halo roster joining OpTic later the same month.

Interestingly, the merger was leaked by ValorIntel, who noted the addition of a new OpTic jersey found on its website, featuring FNS and Victor “Victor” Wong.

OpTic has climbed to the highest ranks amongst Nort America teams. In-game leader Pujan “FNS” Mehta and his teammates were one of only four teams to receive a direct invite to the upcoming VCT NA Stage 1 Challengers, thanks to their strong performance in VCT 2021. The team will look to re-establish their dominant position and secure a coveted spot in the next playoffs stage.

The VALORANT Champions Tour Stage One Challengers event, where OpTic’s new roster is set to debut, begins on February 11. Their first match will be against Rise on February 13.
