  • Mixwell revealed G2 has officially removed him from the active roster
  • The player says he is open to new offers
  • Mixwell was the last player from G2’s original 2020 VALORANT roster

G2 recently removed Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas from their main VALORANT roster, replacing him with Wassim “keloqz” Cista.

G2 Benches Mixwell

After a few weeks of rumors, the Spanish esports organization G2 has officially benched Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas. He will no longer be playing for the org’s VALORANT team. G2 decided to release its VALORANT roster’s former captain following losses to Vitality and Alliance in the VCT Europe: Stage One closed qualifier.

“I’m officially benched from G2,” wrote mixwell in the Twitter post announcing his move from the team’s active roster. “I have permission to search for options and I’m open to any offers,” he added. The post garnered a lot of attention with many fans and colleagues wishing him luck in his future endeavors.

The former captain is replaced by Wassim “keloqz” Cista. This coincides with the decision G2 came to earlier this month. The French player was brough back just 24 hours after G2 were eliminated from the first closed qualifier for Stage 1 Challengers following defeats to Vitality and Alliance in the double-elimination tournament.

Mixwell and His Time in G2

G2 has shifted around a lot of its VALORANT players during last year, and even revealed an all-female team. After failing to qualify for VALORANT Champions 2021, the organization parted ways with Jose “koldamenta” Luis and their head coach Neil “neilzinho” Finlay, and also benched keloqz. However, these changes seem to have not been enough, as the team started the 2022 season with back-to-back defeats which resulted in a 7th-8th place finish.

G2 is rather new to VALORANT as a whole, having entered the scene in 2020. Mixwell was part of that initial team, and under his leadership, the multinational roster made quite an impression in the early days. The team won several tournaments in a row, including WePlay Invitational in July 2020, BLAST Twitch Invitational in September 2020, and First Strike Europe in December 2020.

Despite the early successes, G2 had a very disappointing 2021 apart from a semifinal run in VCT Masters Berlin. The squad missed out on important tournaments like apart from a semifinal run in VCT Masters Berlin.

Mixwell was the last player remaining from G2’s original roster. Time will tell if the organization has made the right decisions.
