Colombian VALORANT pro player Santiago “Daveeys” Ruiz tragically passes away from an undiagnosed medical issue at age 23.
Daveeys Passes Away
Although the world of esports is there to be entertaining, it is also sometimes being struck by tragedy. This is what happened when the Argentinian VALORANT organization KRÜ Esports announced that one of its players, Santiago “Daveeys” Ruiz died at the age of 23. “It is with deep sadness that we have to inform you that, after suffering a medical issue on Sunday, @Daveeys21 passed away,” KRÜ Esports’ statement reads.
“Daveeys, Santi, was a spectacular player and a first-class teammate,” the statement continues. “With his trademark hard-working humility, he was proud to be able to inspire and represent his country and region at the top of the VALORANT world. It was his dream, and he saw it come true.”
Daveeys’ passing may have been hinted at by his teammate axeddy. A day before the official announcement by KRÜ Esports on September 4, axeddy made a post on Titter/X that explained he was taking a break from playing that day. “Guys, I took a break from Valorant today, tomorrow lives are back. Never forget to tell the people you love that you love them,” the post read.
Many Honored the Player’s Memory
Following Daveeys’ untimely death, many fellow professional players, as well as fans, expressed their condolences. This should not come as a surprise, considering the player and his team competed at a very high level, therefore he has gained the respect of many pros and fans alike.
“All of us at KRÜ accompany their family and friends in this difficult moment, and we ask the entire community to support them with their strength and love,” the organization stated. KRÜ owner and former soccer player Sergio Aguero also said Daveeys’ death shocked him and that his support and love go to the deceased player’s family and friends.
Leviatán star Francisco “king” Aravena also wrote on Twitter: “Devastated by the news. I didn’t get to know him too well, but I always saw him as a very chill and kind person. What a shame that everything can change overnight. My deepest condolences and all the support for the family. I hope you rest in peace.”
Team Vitality, who also lost VALORANT player Twisten in June, also paid their respects, alongside other organizations such as Evil Geniuses, NAVI, Team Liquid, Fnatic, Cloud9, and Paper Rex. The Spanish VALORANT Twitter account also issued a short statement about the untimely death of the Colombian pro. “Daveeys, was a passionate VALORANT player who always left a positive mark on his team and his opponents,” the statement reads. “His determination to improve and his sportsmanship were exemplary, and many admired him not only for his skill but also for his kind and friendly nature.
Rest in peace Santiago.”
