Ninjas in Pyjamas Expands to Chinese Wild Rift by Merging with ESV5

in League of Legends, Uncategorized
August 11, 2021
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas has announced a merge with the ESV5 Chinese esports group
  • As a result, ESV5’s Wild Rift team will be rebranded to NIP
  • EStar Esports, a part of ESV5 will continue to operate its Honor of Kings team independently

Ninjas in Pyjamas are entering the Chinese mobile esports scene by merging with ESV5.

Broadening the Scope of Operations

Swedish esports organization Ninjas in Pyjamas will be becoming one with the Chinese esports group ESV5 (comprised of the eStar Gaming and Victory 5 esports bodies). As a result of this merge, Ninjas in Pyjamas will be reaching the Chinese League of Legends: Wild Rift market, or as it is known there – League of Legends Mobile.

Ninjas in Pyjamas will effectively be getting Victory 5’s Wild Rift roster. Additionally, ESV5’s slot in the premier Chinese League of Legends league will get a rebranding and will go by Ninjas in Pyjamas’ name instead of ESV5’s.

However, Ninjas in Pyjamas won’t be the only expanding party in the new group. As a part of the new esports group, eStar Gaming will double down on its competitive mobile video game efforts. The organization already fields an Honor of Kings team whose name will not be rebranded and will remain unchanged.

EStar Gaming is a leading Chinese esports organization that famously won the Honor of Kings World Champion Cup in 2019 along with $1,9 million in prizes. Considering the game’s popularity in China, this is surely no small feat.

Ninjas in Pyjamas’ Future Operations in the Asian Country

Ninjas in Pyjamas’ co-CEO, Hicham Chahine, talked about the new merge with ESV5. According to

Hicham Chahine, the co-CEO of NiP, said the organization is excited to enter mobile gaming with this merger. According to him, the organization is excited to join the Chinese esports scene. Chahine promises that Ninjas in Pyjamas will not discontinue their usual activities with competitive PC gaming but will rather expand their horizons towards a new, “very exciting market which is growing rapidly, which is mobile gaming”.

Ninjas in Pyjamas’ new roster will be next playing during the LPL qualifiers. A good performance may earn the team place in the League Mobile league or even better, the Wild Rift World Championship that is coming later this year.

During the LPL qualifiers on September, 16 teams in total will be struggling against one another to grab the priceless spots at the bigger events. The five best performing teams will advance to the Chinese League Mobile league which will be the region’s biggest local Wild Rift event.
