- Ubisoft is bringing back the Rainbow Six Siege live in Paris on May 11
- The event will be played with 19 teams in attendance through May 23
- All participants will need to comply with strict sanitary protocols
Rainbow Six Siege invitational will return in a live format on May 11 but no live audiences will be allowed to attend.
A Small Step Forward for Live Rainbow Events
Ubisoft has some good news to announce as the Rainbow Six Siege crowning esports event, the Six Invitational, will be taking place in a live format after all. Hosted in Paris, French authorities have cleared the game developer to proceed with the event following strict social distancing and capacity restrictions nevertheless.
The event is scheduled for May 11 and it will be played without a live audience on-site. That is not ideal, but at least all six qualifying Brazilian teams have been given the go-ahead to enter the country and compete in the Six Invitational, which should restore the event to its former glory.
The only hiccup during the event is that Wildcard Gaming will have to miss out the Invitational altogether, as Australia has denied the team the right to leave the country for fear of bringing a new strain of COVID-19. As compensation, Ubisoft will pay out Wildcard one percent of the $3 million prize pool.
Strict Sanitary Protocols in Place for Six Invitational
Teams will also have to comply with a series of prerequisites to be eligible to comply. A PCR test made up to 36 hours before the flight would be necessary. Following that on arrival, all players must get an antigenic test and not least, they must all quarantine for ten days.
Ubisoft has also taken pains to ensure that the event will develop naturally and feature enough games for fans to watch online. There will be a total of 19 teams with the eight best teams of each group making it to the playoffs, and then the two best progressing to the finals.
A total of 81 games have been scheduled for the group stages alone, bringing Rainbow Six: Siege in all of its magnificence this year notwithstanding the empty tribunes. The playoffs will begin on May 19 through May 23 when the grand final will be played.
