Battle of Spatula Set to Replicate TFT’s Success in China
You may think that the Chinese gaming community is one to follow trends, but it’s usually the other way around. Home of Honor of Kings, one of the most famous mobile games in the world, China is now going to get its special version of Teamfight Tactics.
Tencent and Riot Games are collaborating to develop a dedicated fresh version of the game and launch it on what is arguably the biggest mobile gambling market in the world. With the news broken by Daniel Ahmad, an industry veteran, Teamfight Tactics’ new version has received official approval by regulators in the country.
The game is reportedly co-developed by Tencent’s NExT Studios and bears the name of Battle of Golden Spatula. The game will be a true test of Riot Games’ ability to create global hits that penetrate fairly isolated gaming communities which have plenty of good games to play all by themselves.
China is hardly an isolated market, with teams competing in League of Legends, Valorant and even Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra, but it definitely dictates the logic of game releases and how these should happen.
Naturally, the game is expected to bear many similarities to TFT, but once it’s live, the two games are supposed to go their own separate ways dictated by local community preferences.
Speaking of the similarities, the Battle of Golden Spatula will feature Yasuo, Leona, and Mordekaiser. Judging from TFT’s success on the Chinese market, often cited as one of the most streamed games upon release, the community seems ready to welcome yet another blockbuster title that will storm the summits of mobile gaming in the country.
