In the wake of an investigation looking into domestic abuse allegations by Team Liquid Rainbow Six: Siege coach, the organization has dropped Rafael “mav” Loureiro Freitas.

“Mav” Released from Team Liquid Rainbow Six Squad

Team Liquid has dropped Rafael “mav” Loureiro Freitas from the organization’s Rainbow Six Siege roster in the wake of domestic abuse allegations and an investigation confirming that mav has broken the team’s values and code of conduct.

Two former partners accused mav of inappropriate conduct, an issue that was taken seriously by Team Liquid and immediately investigated. The organization said that it appreciated the efforts of people who had stepped forward to bring the issue to its attention, and that Team Liquid would continue to support women’s rights and empowerment.

Touted as one of the most talented players in Rainbow Six and the Brazilian competitive scene, mav has achieved a string of successes in his career so far. He qualified for six Pro League Finals and played in three Six Invitationals.

His career took him to FaZe Clan which he left to focus on coaching at Team Liquid before he was temporarily suspended and now officially dropped from the organization. Nevertheless, mav has put a brave face on and said that he would seek to continue his career in the game and has not commented on the allegations any further.

In a final Tweet, he said that he would be happy to relocate anywhere to pursue his development as a Rainbow Six: Siege coach. While mav’s case is different from some of the other documented cases of abuse in the gaming community, violence against women in esports is still happening, and the issue is only beginning to be properly addressed.

Earlier this year, Ingrid “Sol” Oliveira Bueno da Silva was murdered by a fellow Call of Duty: Mobile player.
