T1 emerged victorious from the semifinals of the LCK Summer Playoffs and qualified for the League of Legends World Championship.

T1 Defeats DWG KIA

Ever since the start of this competitive LoL season, T1 has been steadily steaming ahead, gathering a ton of fans along the way, eager to see the team at the Worlds. Well, their hopes will be fulfilled as T1 qualified for the biggest LoL event following a narrow victory over DWG KIA in the semifinals of the LCK Summer Playoffs.

T1’s victory almost slipped through their fingers. The team started the match on a high note, winning the first two games. However, DWG KIA turned the tables on their opponents, dominating T1 in games three and four.

With the qualification for the Worlds hanging in the balance, both teams entered the fifth and final game with a new strategy, preferring slow and methodical gameplay, over the fast 25-minute first games. The final game did not see any kills by either team until the 25th minute. However, T1 eventually picked up the pace and crawled through the late game, eventually winning it in 42 minutes, securing their place at the Worlds.

What Happens Next?

With this victory, T1 advances to the LCK Summer Finals. There they will face Gen.G, who are eager for a rematch after the Spring Finals. The match is scheduled for August 28 and if T1 emerges victorious they would qualify for the World Championship as the number one seed out of Korea for the third time in the organization’s history.

T1 won’t have it easy, as Gen.G players dominate Riot’s All-LCK team lists, proving Gen.G’s strength. However, in the event T1 falls to Gen.G next week, the team will still have more Championship Points than any other in the LCK. Because of this, the team is already qualified for the group stage of the World Championship, regardless of their performance in next week’s Summer Finals.

Meanwhile, DWG KIA will still have the chance to qualify for Worlds through the LCK regional qualifier. It will begin after the conclusion of the Summer Playoffs and will feature the League’s third through sixth place teams competing in a single-elimination format. Only the top two teams will qualify for the Worlds. DWG KIA will go up against Liiv SANDBOX in the opening round of the regional qualifier.
