Twitch Introduces an Upgraded Notification System for Suspensions

in Streamers
August 10, 2021
  • Twitch will be introducing a notification system that notifies people what content has gotten them suspended
  • The new system will inform about the date and name of the stream that violated the platform’s rules
  • This might not be enough as Twitch deletes the content that resulted in the ban, making it hard to pinpoint exactly what moment caused it

Twitch’s new notification system will provide insight into where a content creator broke the rules.

The New Notification System Will Inform Creators Where They Violated the Rules

As the leading streaming platform for gamers, Twitch has been diligent in keeping tight control on its community standards and has been quick to punish those who break them. Therefore many people have received various degrees of suspensions from the platform, with some even getting banned for the long term. However, because of how tight the regulations are, perhaps sometimes too much so, many people have been suspended without even realizing what they did wrong.

However, this is about to change as Twitch will update its platform with a new notification system. It was announced on the streaming service’s official Twitter page:

🛡️ As of today, enforcement notifications sent to suspended users will include the name of the content and the date of the violation to ensure they have better clarity about what content is being actioned on. pic.twitter.com/aAnrdEZoyi

“As of today, enforcement notifications sent to suspended users will include the name of the content and the date of the violation to ensure they have better clarity about what content is being actioned on,” the announcement reads.

The new system will therefore detail during which stream the wrongdoing has been committed and when exactly did it happen. This way, people will have more clarity on why they were banned and will be able to know where they did wrong and how to avoid getting in trouble the next time.

This will definitely help people to avoid repeating the same mistake over and over but will likely need more work to function as intended.

The Lack of Clarity Might Remain

Even with the new system, however, people may still fail to understand what exactly got them in trouble. The problem is that the new notifications will confirm the date and during which stream the issue occurred but will not point out what exactly caused the need for punitive action.

Because of this, people who stream for long hours will likely be just as clueless about where they could have done better. Besides, most of the time, the reason for a ban is a single phrase or a short moment, which makes pinpointing the exact moment it happened especially hard. Pinpointing is not made easier by the fact that the platform deletes any content it deems offensive.

Therefore even with the new system, many people will be unable to get where they broke Twitch’s community standards unless they have been recording their own stream.

However, as Twitch has shown intent to provide better feedback, perhaps in the future, it will upgrade its notification system to provide the exact time for the offense as well.
