- The eco initiative has finally reached its final goal
- TeamTrees worked in varied locations around the world
- MrBeast’s other big environmental campaign TeamSeas is still ongoing
After three years, MrBeast’s TeamTrees initiative to plant 20 million trees has finally been completed.
TeamTrees Achieves Its Goal
YouTube sensation Jimmy Donaldson, a.k.a MrBeast, has made his name online with his crazy over-the-top ideas and projects, and his many positive initiatives. One such charitable campaign launched way back in 2019 and called TeamTrees, aimed to plant trees for each dollar donated to the cause.
With the goal of planting 20 million trees, the sum needed for the charity was $20 million. Although it was a lofty goal, the number was reached in just a few months thanks to the contribution of MrBeast’s large online following. Even the Tesla and SpaceX entrepreneur Elon Musk famously donated a million dollars to the cause, but his donation was surpassed by Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke.
The planting of the trees started before the financial end goal was reached but it would ultimately take almost three years for the organization to put the last tree in the ground. But after much hard work, MrBeast announced the initiative has finally reached its final goal.
MrBeast Announces the Historical Milestone
With an Internet-breaking tweet, that got over 20 000 likes in an hour, the popular content creator told everyone that TeamTrees had planted the last tree. In addition to the announcement, MrBeast also shared a list of all the locations where these trees were planted in.
The team behind the initiative chose quite varied locations for reforestation. Spanning six continents in locations such as the Mississippi basin to the plains of Thailand, the region that got the most trees from the initiative is Mozambique, with over one million being planted in the country.
While TeamTrees proved to be a great success, MrBeast has not stopped with his environmental charity projects. His other current initiative TeamSeas aims to clean up one pound of rubbish from the world’s oceans for each dollar donated to the cause. When MrBeast launched this ongoing campaign on October 29, 2021, dozens of companies came forth with proposals for vehicles and logistical help to achieve the goal. So far TeamSeas has managed to remove 32 million pounds of rubbish from the ocean.
While none of these two campaigns will solve the problems of pollution and climate change, they have still managed to make a huge impact and raise awareness about environmental issues.
