Shroud has teased that a system similar to World of Warcraft’s Valor Points is making its way into New World.
Mutation Shards Coming to New World
Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, a famous esports player and a Twitch content creator, has cemented himself as one of the most prominent streamers of Amazon’s new MMORPG game, New World. In a new stream, shroud teased that a new mechanic will soon be making its way to the game.
The mechanic in question is very similar to the Valor Points system in one of New World’s competitors, World of Warcraft. What the Valor Points mechanic does is that it basically allows players to accumulate an in-game currency by playing. The currency can be later spent on new cutting-edge gear or on upgrading the gamers’ pre-existing equipment.
This idea was first added to WoW back in the game’s third expansion, Cataclysm, and has since been a cool way for people to quickly catch up with their peers and obtain powerful end-game items.
According to shroud, New World will be getting its variant of this system that will be called “Mutation Shards.” Although we still lack an official announcement from the game’s developers and the name and concept are subject to change, shroud spoke about what’s currently rumored.
How It Will Work
According to the content creator, the Mutation Shards system will be implemented when the 620 gear score items drop. “The rumor is that when 620 comes out, it’ll just be for mutations, and you’ll get these shards,” shroud revealed. He explained that the system will allow players to accumulate shards and spend them to level up their equipment’s gear score. Shroud explained that this method will allow people to get good equipment without relying too much on RNG drops.
“You’ll be like ‘I have a good piece, I’m going to do a bunch of mutations to get it from 600 to 605, 610.” Basically, it will be two birds with one stone as the system will not only allow players to gear up through dedicated play but will also add a higher gear power variety which is something that New World enthusiasts have demanded since the game’s release.
Not much is known about this so-called Mutation Shards system yet. However, it is definitely something to look forward to in one of the next few updates.
