In the hopes of performing well at the upcoming Midseason Madness qualifiers, Florida Mayhem is bringing some young blood into the team.
Rupal Joins Florida Mayhem
The Overwatch League’s Midseason Madness tournament qualifiers are just around the corner, and teams are busy making last-minute adjustments to their rosters. Florida Mayhem is no exception, and the organization is making big changes at the last moment. The team announced that it has acquired former Redbird Esports flex support Rupal Zaman to its roster.
Zaman comes to fill in the spot left by veteran flex Bak “KariV” Young-seo, who will be moving to a coaching position within Mayhem.
The young player is yet another new talent to join the Overwatch League out of the collegiate scene this year. He made his name in the Overwatch Contenders circuit, with some of his most notable performances were with the rosters of Noble and Revival.
Later on, Zaman joined Illinois State University’s varsity team Redbird Esports, an organization known for its good performance. The 19-year-old helped his new team win the Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup earlier this year, which is probably what caught Florida Mayhem’s attention.
Mayhem Drops Tank Adam Soong
Now that KariV is moving to a coaching position, Zaman will have to learn to play alongside Majed “SirMajed” Alrashied, the team’s other flex support. The latter has been the Mayhem’s primary choice in the role most of the year.
From the comment section of the Twitter post, we learn that Florida Mayhem had released off-tank Adam Soong. He was picked up by Florida for the 2022 season after weathering a difficult year due to the Los Angeles Valiant’s restructuring. However, during the Kickoff Clash qualifiers and tournament, Mayhem decided to run Ham “Someone” Jeong-wan as its sole tank.
Soong did not stay silent after this team’s announcement, and it seems the parting with Mayhem was not amicable. “You guys didn’t have the respect to drop me in person,” the player wrote in response to the organization’s tweet.
The organization’s update also confirmed that hitscan expert Jung “Xzi” Ki-hyo has finally made it to Florida and can start practice in-person with his teammates. He had been having various visa issues ever since he was acquired by the team back in April.
