WePlay to Host a New Rocket League Tournament with a $100,000 Prize

in Rocket League
September 9, 2021
  • WePlay Holding is to begin hosting Rocket League tournaments
  • The first event will feature sixteen teams from around the world
  • WePlay Esports executives share their thoughts on the new tournament

WePlay Holding is going to host a new tournament, adding Rocket League to its repertoire of games featured in the WePlay Esports Invitational.

What Can We Expect to See on the Event

Rocket League is the latest addition to WePlay, the up-and-coming esports tournament host and events company, which has already hosted numerous premier tournaments for games such as CS:GO, DOTA 2, League of Legends, and many fighting games, including a Dota 2 Major in Kyiv earlier this year.

The Rocket League tournament will feature eight teams from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as eight teams from North America who will vie for a prize pool of $100,000. The teams will compete against each other between September 16 and September 19.

They will play a standard double-elimination bracket, each round being a best-of-seven. WePlay Esports Arena Kyiv will be the host of the event and the English broadcast will be streamed live on the WePlay Rocket League Twitch channel.

Organizers Promise a Good Show

Anton Tokarev, lead esports manager at WePlay Esports said “We’ve organized many memorable major events so far at WePlay Esports, and we finally have a chance to do another in Rocket League”. He added that he is eager to show what the organization can do with a title such as Rocket League and its passionate community. “I am sure that the WePlay Esports Invitational Featuring Rocket League will pleasantly surprise the fans of the game with what our team has in store for the event”, he said.

The tournament will be an opportunity for many teams who made a roster move during this off-season some of which being Dignitas, Karmine Corp, Guild Esports, Sandrock Gaming, Semper Esports, FaZe Clan, Rogue and Soniqs. It will be interesting to see what these teams will offer now since each one of them has either lost or signed a high-profile player.

Eugene Luchianenco, head of esports at WePlay Esports, said that Rocket League has made huge waves among the esports community. He is sure that the WePlay Esports Invitational Featuring Rocket League will surely presently surprise the fans of the game and he and his staff are fully committed to delivering a great show.

The company's forays in Dota 2 are what put WePlay on the radar, but since the Bukovel Minor, the firm has been in a state of accelerated growth of its esports empire.

WePlay became the official Russian-language broadcast partner for both BLAST Pro and PGL and in July, WePlay revealed the Academy initiative geared towards feeder teams for established CS:GO powerhouses. The league effectively allows trainee teams to hone their skills in a competitive environment and compete for a modest prize pool.
