- The company added that there will be major changes to the release schedule of LoR expansions
Riot Games has decided to cease hosting official Legends of Runeterra broadcasts during the Seasonal tournaments.
Legend of Runeterra Seasonal Broadcasts Are No More
Riot Games has announced that it will stop hosting official broadcasts of the Legends of Runeterra Seasonal tournaments. According to an official video by the developers, the company will cease the official broadcasts in order to redirect the funds towards a bigger LoR Worlds main broadcast.
Riot Games clarified that this doesn’t mean Seasonal tournaments are cancelled. Andrew “RiotUmbrage” Yip, the game’s design director, explained that the decision to stop the broadcast is done with the clear idea of enhancing the World Championship tournament and making it the best experience possible.
The first Legends of Runeterra World Championship was held in 2021 – a year after the game’s release. It featured a total of 192 players from across the world and had a $200,000 prize pool.
Sadly, this means that fans will no longer be able to enjoy the diverse Legends of Runeterra esports content that Riot Games has previously promoted. Since its release in 2020, Legends of Runeterra has grown to be a beloved competitive card game with many casual and competitive fans across the world.
The Expansion Schedule Will Also Receive Changes
Riot Games also revealed that the release schedule of new Legends of Runeterra cards will also undergo some changes. According to the announcement, the game will now receive standalone expansions at various points throughout 2022. Riot teased that the expansions will not be the same size, with some bigger and others smaller. The company explained that expansions will contain both new player-versus-player and player-versus-environment characters, diversifying the LoR experience.
Analysts predict that this change may have a profound effect on the schedule of Seasonal tournaments as well since they have been always held two months before the release of a new expansion pack.
As of now, Riot Games has confirmed that two new expansions will be released in May and July.
