Riot Games has created a new Head of Global esports operations position. The position has been filled in immediately by Whalen Rozelle, who has been with the company for nearly a decade:

Riot Games Choses Whalen Rozelle as Head of Global Esports Operations

Whalen Rozelle has been a part of Riot Games for more than 9.5 years. Starting as director of esports, he served at that position for four years between April 2012 and April 2016.

Then, Rozelle took the position of co-head of global League of Legends esports in April 2016. He kept that position for 3 years until May 2019. After that, he took an even higher position as senior director of global esports. He was also named global head of Valorant esports.

After 2 years and 6 months as senior director of esports, he was promoted to head of global esports operations, according to a report released by the Esports Observer on Monday this week.

Rozelle Is Honored to Lead Riot’s Esports Teams

On Twitter, Rozelle revealed that it is an honor for him to lead Riot’s esports teams around the world. Moreover, he outlined that the growth of esports over the last 10 years was a “wondrous adventure.” In conclusion, Rozelle said that he is looking forward to investing “into an even brighter future for esports fans everywhere.”

In his new position, Rozelle is going to report to John Needham, Riot’s global head of esports. As head of global esports operations, he will oversee the operations of Riot’s different esports leagues such as Valorant, League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics and more. Additionally, he will help with the high-level management of different regional leagues. Rozelle will also remain the head of Valorant esports for the moment.
