  • Six teams will face off in a bid to qualify for the LoL 2022 Mid-Season Invitational
  • The Spring Playoffs start this Saturday and feature a $200K prize pool
  • The first match will be between Cloud9 and 100 Thieves

The teams and matchups for the League of Legends 2022 Spring Split are now confirmed and they start with a showdown between Cloud9 and 100 Thieves.

The Spring Split Starts Saturday

As winter comes to its end, so does the 2022 Spring Split. Now six teams from North America will be looking forward to the Spring Playoffs, where the competition will only get even more intense. The bracket for the Spring Playoffs has been formed after Evil Geniuses triumphed over FlyQuest in the final tiebreaker match.

The Spring Playoffs will be split into two brackets: an upper bracket for the top four teams and a lower bracket for the bottom two teams. Aptly, the upper one is called “the winners’ bracket”, and the lower one is named “the losers’ bracket”. Just like in previous competitions, the matches will be best-of-five. The winner will qualify for the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational event that will be held in  Houston, Texas, featuring a live audience.

The event will feature a prize pool of $200,000, with half of that going to the first-place winner. The rest of $100K will be allocated as follows: $50K for the runner-up, $30K for third place, and the rest go to the number four placeholder.

What Else Can We Expect?

Viewers who tune in for the start of the Spring Playoffs on Saturday will be delighted to see the event starts with a strong matchup. The first game will be an upper bracket bout between Cloud9, who finished as the second seed, and third-seed 100 Thieves. The next day viewers will see a battle between fourth-place Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid who, contrary to their “fourth meme” placement, are currently leading.

Teams in the lower bracket, those being Golden Guardians and FlyQuest, will still have a chance to make it to the Mid-Season Showdown. Their opponents will be the two losing teams from the upper bracket from the previously mentioned matches. However, if Golden Guardians and FlyQuest want to qualify for the Mid-Season event, they will still have to defeat the top teams in the LCS in order to do so.

The Spring Playoffs will start this Saturday and will culminate in the Mid-Season Showdown on April 23 and 24 at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. This event in April is very important, considering it is the first LCS event since the start of 2020 to have a live audience, COVID-19 restricting events to an online format. Tickets can be bought through Ticketmaster.
