Next R6 Major to be Held in Gävle, Sweden

in Rainbow Six Siege
October 6, 2021
  • The next Major event in Rainbow Six Siege will take place in Sweden
  • The tournament will follow the same format as the Six Major in Mexico from August
  • Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no live audiences allowed at the venue

Ubisoft has chosen Sweden as the location of the next big Rainbow Six Siege Major tournament.

Sweden to Host the R6 Major

Sweden continues to be one of the most coveted locations for hosting big esports events. This is proven by Ubisoft’s decision to choose the city of Gävle in the North European country to be the venue for the upcoming Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Major. This marks the first time such a big Rainbow Six Siege event will be hosted in Sweden.

The Six Major 2021 will take place in November and will be the last big esports Rainbow Six Siege tournament for the year. The event is scheduled to begin on November 8 with grand finals on November 14.

We're thrilled to unveil that the next #SixMajor will unfold from November 8 to 14 in Gävle, Sweden!

— Rainbow Six Esports (@R6esports) October 5, 2021

The Six Major in November will have the same format as the Six Major in Mexico that took place in August this year. There will be 16 teams from various regions who will play in group stages for three days before advancing to the six-day-long single-elimination playoffs. The grand finals will be played in a best-of-five format.

The best-performing teams will grab a share of the $500,000 prize pool. The champion of the Six Major in Sweden will get $200,000 from the total prize funding, as well as 200 competitive points.

No Live Audiences Because of COVID

Sadly, the COVID-19 situation has once again led to the organizers of a big esports event disallowing live audiences. The Six Major will be played offline but will not allow any other people on the venue, other than the teams and the staff. Ubisoft firmly said that everything is with the health of everyone involved in mind.

“Well-being of pro players, staff, and partners being our main priority, the Six Sweden Major will be a LAN event with no on-site audience following strict sanitary measures,” the game company stated.

In order to have the event hosted without any further complications, Ubisoft is cooperating with the Swedish officials to ensure that everything follows the COVID-19 restrictions.

Sweden is proving to be an attractive location for many esports events. It was originally the planned venue for both The International 10 Dota 2 championship and the PGL Major in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. There were some problems with the COVID-19 restrictions, which led to TI10 relocating to Romania. However, Sweden later rethought its position and lifted the restrictions, allowing the PGL Major to take place in the country.

Hopefully, the Six Major in Sweden won’t have to deal with the same problems that TI10 and the PGL Major dealt with.
