PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021 Will Attempt to Return to LAN

in PUBG
July 26, 2021
  • Tencent announced the 2021 Global Championship for PUBG Mobile
  • The tournament will have $6 million in prizes and is planned to be the biggest event in the game
  • Depending on the COVID-19 situation, the event may either take place live or remotely

The PlayerUnknown’s Battleground Mobile Global Championship will be the biggest event in the game. Depending on the pandemic, the spectacle may take place live.

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship Puts $6 Million on the Line

A new iteration of the PlayerUnknown’s Battleground Mobile Global Championship will be coming later this year. The event will take place towards the end of 2021 and will be operated by Tencent. The company is envisioning it as the biggest PUBG Mobile esports event ever will therefore give everything in its power to host it as a live offline event.

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021 is scheduled for the time period between November 2021 and January 2022. It will have a sizeable prize pool of $6 million. A huge chunk of the impressive prize will be taken home by the next world champion.

The format of the event will be quite similar to the 2020’s edition – it will begin with a league that will culminate with finals between the top teams. The league will take place between November and December, while the finals have been scheduled for January next year.

The announcement of the Global Championship has also raised the stakes of the PUBG Mobile Pro League as the top teams will secure sports for the upcoming PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021.

More information will be revealed as the event approaches.

Organizing the Biggest PUBG Mobile Event

In a discourse with Dot Esports, James Yang, Tencent’s director of PUBG Mobile global esports, revealed that the company has ambitions of making this year’s Global Championship the biggest event in the history of the popular mobile game. That’s exactly why it will have a prize pool that is three times as big as the one in 2020.

Because of the tournament’s scale, Tencent will be trying its best to host the Global Championship as a live offline event. However, nothing is confirmed at this point, and all the plans are subject to change. Yang revealed that Tencent is still looking for a final location of the event.

Because of the pandemic, hosting an event of such a scale is still a fickle matter. Last year three players tested positive during the 2020 Global Championship. Because of that, Tencent had to improvise and had all the participants play online from their hotel rooms.

Regardless of how the pandemic situation develops, it is sure to have an effect on esports and especially on events as big as the PUBG Mobile Global Championship.

Another big event that is coming in PUBG Mobile is the PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2021.
