After only midlaner NothingToSay and hard support y’ were left on PSG.LGD’s roster, the organization has to rebuild for the upcoming DPC season.

LGD Makes Big Roster Changes

The end of the year is approaching, but this is also the start of a new stage for many Dora 2 esports organizations. One of these is PSG.LGD, which is making very large steps forward by parting ways with three of its longstanding players. Only two members of its former roster remain as LGD signs three new players from across China to fill the holes left.

The roster shuffle leaves LGD with just two players from its former squad – star midlaner Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang and hard support Zhang “y`” Yiping (also known as “WhyouSm1Le”). Coach Zhang “xiao8” Ning will also stay with LGD for the upcoming 2023 Dota Pro Circuit. With this, the organization has a stable core left around which it will have to build its new roster. The remaining team members will not have an easy task having to balance carrying the successful runs of the past alongside the new members which LGD will bring. 

To fill in the gaps left by the three former players, LGD is bringing in some talent from, EHOME: Xuanang “shiro” Guo and Hao “planet” Lin. The new trio is rounded out by Li “项羽” Longwu who comes from CDEC. He is a relatively unknown talent who will now have the opportunity to prove himself with the China DPC regional champions PSG.LGD.

Why LGD Made Such a Big Change?

PSG.LGD’s significant roster changes don’t come from the decision of the organization itself. Instead, the changes were initiated by Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida, who decided to retire from competitive Dota at the end of LGD’s TI11 run. This was followed by Ame also making the call to step back, moving to the organization’s inactive roster with no set timeline for a return. 

Roster rebuilds always hide the possibility the newly formed squad may not be able to perform as well as the previous one. Usually, it takes time for a team to get back on track after such big changes, especially one that has a lot of relatively new talent in it. However, considering a majority of the top teams in China went through significant rebuilds of their own, a lot of LGD’s competition will also have similar difficulties and uncertainties. 

The 2023 DPC kicks off in January, so teams will have about a month to train their revamped rosters.
