Pokimane Launches a New Scholarship
Imane “Pokimane” Anys has become one of the most popular Twitch streamers and influencers and now it seems the Internet star wants to give back to her community. Recently Pokimane announced a $100K scholarship for student gamers, helping them pay off their student debts.
The Moroccan-Canadian Internet personality has done this already back in 2020 when she promised to give away money to students every year “forever”. It seems she has kept her promise as has partnered up with the American Video Game League, which produces collegiate esports events and content, to give out $100K scholarships to ten students. Pokimane is paying half of the scholarship herself, and the AVGL is covering the other $50K.
“With both of my parents being teachers, I’m especially proud to be launching another scholarship to help students with a gaming passion,” Pokimane said in a release.
A Project to “Fix the Gaming and Esports Industry”
This project is one of a few that Pokimane has launched in recent months, to help promote development in the gaming industry. Just last month the Internet star partnered up with other gaming industry veterans to start a talent agency for streamers. The aim is to provide a service helping up-and-coming content creators to get better deals on sponsorships and management.
Pokimane said that many streamers who are just starting are “spinning their wheels on basic stuff”, so she hopes the agency can help them get a quick head start and not get bogged down learning the basics of streaming and monetizing content.
This year’s scholarship program can be applied for until December 31, 2021. It will be available for students who are set to attend college in the Fall of the following year. It is aimed specifically at gamers and it wants to strengthen the careers of the recipients. Applicants must strengthen the careers of the recipients.
“I know firsthand that it’s not easy to balance schoolwork and a gaming career,” Pokimane said in the release. “I hope that this scholarship will alleviate that stress for aspiring gaming content creators and players.”
