The Houston Outlaws Hire Former Player Bischu as a Manager

in Overwatch
January 14, 2022
  • He comes in place of veteran player turned manager Matt “coolmatt” Iorio
  • Aaron “Bischu” Kim is a well-known face in the competitive Overwatch community
  • His experience and skills will come in handy leading the HO’s multinational team

From accomplished player to manager, Bischu is the Houston Outlaws’ new Manager of Player Operations & Content.

The Houston Outlaws’ New Manager

Like many other organizations during the offseason, the Houston Outlaws are also making massive changes to their roster composition, including to their staff. Recently, the organization announced they have hired former Overwatch League player Aaron “Bischu” Kim as a manager. To be more precise, his title is “Manager of Player Operations & Content”. This means his task is not so much to be engaged with the more financial side of things, but rather he will be working closely with the team’s players and content creators during the 2022 season.

Excited to welcome #OWL vet @Bischu to H-Town as our Manager of Player Operations & Content!

You'll be seeing a lot of Bischu this year as he will be working closely with our players and content team. Show him some love, #OutlawsNation! #AnteUp pic.twitter.com/KlOqh3UO21

This new hire comes just a few days after Matt “coolmatt” Iorio, Houston Outlaws’ previous general manager and also player, left the organization on January 11. The 32-year-old leaves a substantial legacy both as a player and later on as a manager. “We extend a heartfelt thanks to @coolmatt69 on behalf of #OutlawsNation for being with us since Season 1 to being the first #OWL player to GM an OWL team,” the Houston Outlaws tweeted. “We wish him the best in all that lies ahead.”

Before moving from player to manager in January 2020 and eventually to the general manager later that year, coolmatt played for teams like Fnatic and EnVtUs. He joined the Houston Outlaws in 2017 ahead of Season 1 of the Overwatch League. He was also the first OWL player to move into a general manager role.

Bischu’s Impressive Career

Bischu is a well-known face in the competitive Overwatch community. His stints as a player include him playing off-tank for the Los Angeles Gladiators during the inaugural season. Later on, he moved to the Guangzhou Charge before coming back to the Gladiators in 2020. Later that year, he left the Gladiators but expressed a desire to return to Overwatch in some kind of managerial or coaching role.

Now that he is part of the Outlaw's staff, his experience, and notably his fluency in both Korean and English, will help him manage the organization’s multinational team. Although the HO kept Western DPS Dante “Danteh” Cruz, they have built a mostly South Korean roster for the upcoming season.

In October, the organization acquired 2021 rookie of the year Oh “Pelican” Se-hyun. This acquisition was quickly followed by the signing of his former teammate flex support Kim “Ir1s” Seung-hyun. The team’s composition was finished with the Outlaws’ 2021 holdover off-tank Shin “PIGGY” Min-jun, as well as the acquisition of flex support Mun “Lastro” Jung-won, who formerly played for Toronto Defiant.

It seems that Bischu is well-suited to help lead the team to great achievements in the 2022 season.
