Sideshow and Bren Will Not Be Casting in 2022’s OWL Season

in Overwatch
January 27, 2022
  • Two of the Overwatch League’s most longtime casters will not be returning in 2022
  • Sideshow and Bren have both worked as OWL talents since the league’s first season and are now discontinuing their OWL career
  • Luckily for fans, the caster duo will continue posting content on its Plat Chat Podcast

Sideshow and Bren, two of the Overwatch League’s most prominent talents, will not be returning as casters in 2022.

Sideshow and Bren Discontinue Their OWL Careers

Two of Overwatch’s most popular casters won’t be returning to cast during the 2022 Overwatch season. Josh “Sideshow” Wilkinson and Brennon “Bren” Hook both announced that they have not resigned an agreement with the Overwatch League.

Bren & I currently do not have an agreement for 2022 with Overwatch League, marking the end of our four years as broadcast talent. We wish the league and our colleagues the best of luck for OW2.

— Josh Wilkinson (@SideshowGaming) January 26, 2022

This sad announcement means that the OWL’s new season will be short on two of its longtime talents. Sideshow and Bren have both worked as talents for the Overwatch games since the league’s start four years ago. They started their careers as analysts and eventually became commentators for the last two seasons.

We’ve been a part of OWL since day one, and for me personally I can be proud of what I accomplished alongside some of the best in the business, I owe a lot of my personal growth to my involvement in the Overwatch League and can soundly say I’m a better person because of it.

— Brennon Hook (@BrenCasts) January 26, 2022

Sideshow and Bren bid their farewells with the OWL, both saying that they were happy to work with the league and wished it the best of luck. Bren added that he’s seen a lot of professional growth thanks to his time as an OWL talent and is proud to have come this far.

The Two Will Continue Posting Content on Their Podcast

The two professional casters were universally admired within the community. Sideshow and Bren eventually co-founded the so-called Plat Chat Podcast where they focused on Overwatch and VALORANT content and analyzed games from the two titles.

Luckily for fans, the duo does not plan to discontinue the Plat Chat Podcast and will continue producing esports commentary and content as independent creators. Bren took this commitment a step further and assured fans that he will spare no effort in making 2022 the best year for Plat Chat yet.

For 2022 I’m still planning on being involved in esports through freelance broadcast events, Plat Chat OW and Valorant co-streams and of course the podcasts too. All my energy is focused on making this the best year yet for Plat Chat.

— Brennon Hook (@BrenCasts) January 26, 2022

Industry analysts expect the caster duo to focus more on VALORANT content and stream more competitive VALORANT games. People who wish to watch their content and support them can find them on both Twitch and YouTube Gaming.

Sideshow and Bren’s leave from the Activision Blizzard-sponsored league isn’t an unprecedented happening. Two talents from the Call of Duty League, namely Clint “Maven” Evans and Joseph “MerK” DeLuca, recently announced that they don’t think they will continue casting in 2022.
