- Roadhog is one of the most broken tanks in Overwatch 2
- He pares very well with Kiriko and can sometimes even one-shot 200HP heroes
- This has prompted many players to demand the hero be nerfed
Roadhog has been in need of some changes for quite a while and Blizzard devs have finally revealed they are working on a “soft rework” for the hero.
Roadhog Needs a Nerf
Overwatch 2 is well into its second season and Blizzard’s devs already have a long list of problems and complaints by players they need to address. As well as the non-trivial number of bugs that need to be fixed, Overwatch 2’s dev team also needs to bring balance to several heroes. Sojourn and Doomfist, stand out in need of changes as both heroes have either been the best or worst characters so far in the sequel.
But one other hero, that has emerged as one of the most powerful in OW2 and desperately needs a nerf, is Roadhog. Thanks to the introduction of Kiriko, the tank gained the ability to cleanse status effects against him such as anti-heal, which has made the hero even more difficult to put down.
Blizzard was well aware of this problem, but this knowledge did not seem to reflect much in OW2’s latest update, where the hero’s stats or abilities were not touched. Instead, some of the heroes with better matchups against him, such as Ana, have been buffed to hopefully alleviate the problem.
However, the Hog’s ability to “one-shot” many other heroes still makes him an overpowered hero in many matchups. For this reason, Blizzard is planning a “soft rework” to address the problem.
Roadhog Is Soon to Be Reworked
In a recent Twitch stream, Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson talked with streamers Flats and Emongg about the lack of hog changes. However, Dawson stated that this will soon change as Blizzard is working on an update that should come to the game sometime in January.
“He is going to get pretty nerfed,” Dawson said in the stream. “I think over time what we want to do with Roadhog is look at his kit a bit more closely. So, something like a soft rework and see how he fits in the 5v5 environment.”
Roadhog’s ability to eliminate 200 HP heroes has been a big part of his gameplay for ages with the Hook combo and this might likely be the main focus of Blizzard’s work. However, the developer did not speak in detail about what this “soft rework” would look like, nor said a specific date when the update is going to roll around.
At least now Overwatch 2 fans know that the issues with the hero are being worked on.
