  • Players have found a new exploit that Mercy can do on Paraiso
  • It can cause everyone to experience massive amounts of lag and FPS drop
  • This could be easily exploited by Mercy to push the payload alone and won the match

With just a few simple steps, Mercy mains can make an entire lobbyy of players lag so much on Paraiso, that she can deny them playing the game and win the match on her own.

New Mercy Glitch Discovered

Overwatch 2 is no stranger to game-breaking bugs, which have plagued the game and its predecessor for many seasons. The game has suffered from glitches that range from interfering with individual players’ games to trapping entire teams in the spawn area. However, OW2’s latest glitch brings things up a notch as it can render the game unplayable for an entire lobby of players.

This time, the culprit is Mercy, who is able to essentially break the game for both her own team and the enemy. YouTuber nsbunited recently made a video explaining the glitch and how it can affect the game. What it boils down to is essentially a series of exploits that make the game lag for everyone and their FPS to plummet, essentially making the entire lobby the Mercy player’s hostage.

Nsbunited compared this to an old glitch that Genji had, which produced similar results, but on a much smaller scale. The glitch called “Genji’s pet dragon” allowed the player to freeze an animation from the hero, when he is making one of his abilities. Normally this animation of a dragon would disappear soon after, but for some reason, it stayed on Genji, when the player does the things the YouTuber explained. This would cause everyone who looked at Genji to have their FPS drop.

Mercy’s exploit breaks things even more, with the added benefit that the user can exploit it a lot more easily to their advantage. It happens on Paraiso, where players can make the spawn escape mechanic go off seven to nine times, this would cause her staff and gun animations to play at the same time. Although initially this did not cause much trouble, on Paraiso it causes a large FPS drop, when the user switches weapons once again.

This causes all players in the lobby to have their games start lagging a lot. The drop in framerate as well as the lag continue to get worse after just a few seconds of Mercy having her staff out. This soon makes the game essentially unplayable, with the effect getting worse every time Mercy dies and respawns.

What’s more interesting is that when Mercy takes her pistol out, her FPS normalizes, but that of the other players doesn’t. Because of this, it’s quite easy to exploit it in ranked matches, as Mercy could just take the entire lobby “hostage” and push the payload herself.

Fortunately, there are several ways this glitch can be counteracted if you’re on the receiving end. Firstly, you can simply leave and rejoin, which should normalize your FPS. Not picking a hero during the setup phase also counteracts the glitch. Finally, if the Mercy player swaps their hero, the lag should also stop.

Despite the “counters” to this glitch, it’s still a huge and game-breaking one, and it’s not impossible that Blizzard could take Mercy out of the pick pool until the fix is broken. That being said, the company has yet to comment on the issue.
