- Activision Blizzard posted new Overwatch 2 screenshots on its Facebook page, showing the game’s UI
- Fans immediately noticed that Doomfist has been flagged as a tank instead of a damage dealer
- Overwatch 2 hasn’t officially confirmed the role change but it seems possible considering Doomfist’s style
New Overwatch 2 screenshots listed Doomfist as a tank character, prompting fans to suspect an upcoming role change for the character.
Doomfist Might Soon Receive a Role Change
As most fans know, Overwatch 2 will make some significant changes to the game balance. For starters it will switch the competitive format from 6 versus 6 to 5 versus 5, thus removing one of the tank slots. In-game characters will also receive an overhaul. And while some will get mostly visual changes, others are up for some significant reworking, including alleged role changes.
Activision Blizzard recently released a few screenshots on its official Facebook page that immediately piqued fans’ attention. While the company wanted to showcase the fresh new pre-battle user interface, fans noticed something else – that the brawler Doomfist was flagged as a tank.
Being a Tank Will Suit Doomfist but Might Damage His Uniqueness
Activision Blizzard has not come forward with an official statement about the change. While Doomfist may have been wrongly marked as a tank because Overwatch 2 is still in development, role change is not something unheard of –Symmetra, for example, is another character who had her class changed.
The role of a tank sure suits Doomfist but it might also deprive him of some of his unique traits since the hero is the only damage-oriented melee character. Still, the alleged role change might benefit him in terms of gameplay as it will make him much more likely to survive close encounters. If this role switch comes to take place, we can also expect to see Dommfist’s damage values lowered across the board and his mobility slightly reduced.
Overwatch 2 is the highly-anticipated second iteration of Activision Blizzard’s beloved first-person shooter. Despite being delayed several times, the game is now closer than ever and soon fans will see it in its full glory as the new OWL season begins. Gamers can also try an early build of the game by registering to participate in the Overwatch Beta.
