Nouns defeated Evil Geniuses 2-1 at the finals of the ESL Challenger Jönköping North American closed qualifier to earn a spot in the main event in Sweden.

Nouns Beat EG

ESL Challenger Jönköping is one of the best opportunities that lower-level Counter-Strike teams could get to prove themselves. The event is a gateway to the top stage of competitive CS and with its $100 000 prize pool it’s also a great way for smaller organizations to earn some cash. American esports organization Nouns is one of the lucky ones that will be able to participate in the event after the team topped the North America closed qualifier.

The team defeated Evil Geniuses 2-1, closing the qualifier undefeated. They made great use of former ChocoCheck member Zack “⁠XotiC⁠” Elshani, who played as a stand-in for Brendan “⁠Bwills⁠” Williams for the majority of their first two victories over Evil Geniuses and Forsaken.

Evil Geniuses arguably had the bumpier ride through the event as they were sent to the lower bracket quite early by none other than Nouns themselves. However, Colby “⁠Walco⁠” Walsh’’s squad bounced back, beating Wildcard and Forsaken to set up a rematch against Nouns, who had managed to bring back Bwills for the final encounter.

As the teams clashed it looked like EG would have their revenge as they took the early lead on Ancient, beating Nouns with a stable 13-6 advantage. However, it seems the team had expended a lot of energy to do so, as they failed to replicate the performance when the map switched to Nuke. It was a much closer battle then, but Nouns eventually came out on top, ending the map with a 13-9 result.

When the teams entered the final map, Mirage, everything was at stake. However, what viewers saw was what they did during the first map, but reversed as Nouns controlled the situation throughout the encounter and eventually finished it with a comfortable 13-6 result to win the match 2-1 and claim a spot at ESL Challenger Jönköping.

This is not the only interesting situation that the qualifier saw. Earlier this week Complexity withdrew from the American Qualifier even before it started, stating that the team wants to participate in the BLAST Premier Fall Final, which happens at the same time as the ESL Challenger Jönköping in Sweden.

ESL Challenger Jönköping will be held in the Nordic country during the weekend of November 24-26, so make sure to tune in to see how Nouns will perform.
