Eighteen of the best Dota 2 teams will embark on an almost two-week-long struggle in Kiev as WePlay Esports will host the second Dota 2 Major for the season.

WePlay is Ready to Create a New DPC Legend

Ukraine-based tournament organizer WePlay Esports solemnly revealed that it would be in charge of hosting the second Dota 2 Major for this year’s Dota Pro Circuit season. The event will be called WePlay AniMajor and will take place in the esports arena in WePlay’s headquarters in Kiev, Ukraine.

WePlay Eports had teased the event with some quirky memes before finally making an official announcement on its Twitter page:

The tournament is set to take place starting June 2 and will continue until the finals on June 13. It will feature 18 teams competing over a prize pool of $500,000 and 2700 DPC points. The prizes will be distributed among the eight best-performing teams.

Sadly, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event will occur with no live audience in attendance.

WePlay Reveals the First Participants, Answers Fans’ Questions

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format. Currently, only three teams have been officially confirmed by WePlay Esports, those being:

  • Alliance (EU)
  • Team Spirit (CIS)
  • Virtus.pro (CIS)

Alliance is indeed present in the lineup as they performed well in the EU Upper Division, just as Noxville recently predicted.

Fans have additionally calculated that Team Aster and NoPing E-sports will also be present as representatives of China and South Asia, respectively.

In the official announcement on their website, WePlay excitedly reminded that this would be the last chance for the participating teams to get some DPC points if they hope of getting to the top 12 positions of the DPC rating

WePlay Esports hosted an AMA session on May 16 where the company’s General Producer & CVO Maksym Bilonogov and Lead Esports Managers Anton Tokarev and Vitaiy Bozhko answered fans’ questions. For those who missed it, the company compiled the highlights in the event on its own website.

WePlay Esports had taken a long break before announcing the WePlay AniMajor. Moreover, it’s been four years since2017’s Kiev Major. Now we will be seeing the best Dota 2 teams in the world flooding back to Ukraine’s capital as one of the most significant events for the game will soon unfold.
