Jovi has joined Optic Gaming’s VALORANT team as an assistant coach on trial.

OpTic Opts to Trial Jovi as an Assistant Coach

Jovanni “Jovi” Vera, the ex-coach of 100 Thieves’ VALORANT lineup, is returning to coaching with a new team. The talented tutor has been selected by OpTic Gaming (formerly Envy) and will help the organization’s players hone their skills before the VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters.

Jovi will join Chet “Chet” Singh, OpTic’s head coach, as an assistant and will train the athletes alongside him. Sadly, he will not be able to instruct the players live – instead, he will instruct the team remotely as it travels to Reykjavík, Iceland for the VCT masters.

As of now, Jovi’s position is not guaranteed – instead, he will do a trial coach run, after which the organization will decide whether to keep him or not. The decision will likely depend on how OpTic performs during the upcoming event.

Jovi exited 100 Thieves two weeks ago, following the team’s underwhelming performance during the Stage One Challengers. While the squad managed to qualify for the group stage, it failed to achieve any significant success and ended up fifth in Group A, after four losses and a single victory.

100 Thieves opted to remove Jovi and David “Rocket” Spencer. Following that, the team acquired Michael “Mikes” Hockomas an assistant coach and Sean “seangares” Gares as a head coach.

OpTic Prepares to Face Its Global Competitors

At the VCT Masters, OpTic Gaming will play in Group B, together with KRÜ Esports, Team Liquid and XERXIA Esports. Only one of the four will have the chance to appear in the playoffs.

OpTic Gaming finished in second place during the Stage One Challengers in North America. After suffering a defeat at the hands of The Guard, the team lost its chance to directly qualify for the Reykjavík Masters playoffs.

The four winners from the first stage regional leagues have been directly invited to the climax of the event. The top-seeded teams include G2 Esports, LOUD, Paper Rex and The Guard.

The VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters – Reykjavík is scheduled to begin on April 10.
