The University of York and Promod Esports have united their efforts to launch a new esports production studio with high-end equipment.

A First of Its Kind Esports Studio Launches in the UK

The University of York is partnering with the specialist esports solutions agency Promod Esports as the two opened a new esports production studio. This is the first university-led esports studio in the United Kingdom.

The studio is based in the University of York’s 3Sixty room. Now it has taken the form of space for teaching, conducting esports studies and making esports-related content. The esports production space has been equipped with state-of-the-art tech costing a whopping total of $342,000. It is fully provided with everything needed for producing a variety of esports-related content, including a green screen space.

Professor John Mateer, a member of the university’s Department for Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive media, spoke on the studio’s launch. He is glad to see how the partnership with Promod has turned the 3Sixty room into a “truly unique media studio that boosts the university’s existing strength in digital creativity research and teaching.”

“With the flexibility to span diverse application areas, the studio is an example of how academic-industry partnerships can drive technological innovation and facilitate a broad portfolio of usages,” Mateer said.

Promod Esports Is Happy to Work with the University

The new esports production studio will be operated by the collaborative efforts of the University of York and Promod Esports. Promod’s role will be to secure commissions with industry partners who wish to use the studio.

The chief executive officer of Promod Esports, Rob Black, revealed that the agency’s team is excited about the partnership with the University of York.

It’s fantastic to have such a great opportunity to work with and inspire the future talent coming into the esports industry,” he said.

Other than being used by industry partners, the new esports production studio will also provide esports enthusiasts with work opportunities. Paid internships are also on the table.

The studio’s launch is great news for European collegiate esports. The collegiate leagues have been vastly popular in the United States but are yet to see the same level on success in the European market.
