  • R6 hits an all-time high number on Steam Charts
  • The peak amounted to over 200K simultaneously active players, which is almost four times more than the game’s average
  • The game is on the rise again, aided by the ongoing free weekend and the release of new content

Following an open free weekend and new content release, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege breaks its own Steam Charts record by having over 200,000 players simultaneously on Steam.

Rainbow Six’ Beats Its Own Record

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege has had its ups and downs. Since Ubisoft released the shooter in 2015, the game has experienced dramatic fluctuations in the numbers of its active players.

However, the constant care from the developers has kept the game running as a leading title. Even in its worse days, the team has managed to keep players from dropping below 50K. Now it seems Rainbow Six Siege is riding the massive success train again as it just beat its own record on Steam by capping 200K concurrent players.

A free weekend and the release of the Crimson Heist Operation seem to have rekindled the massive interest in the game. Ubisoft has previously successfully used free weekends as means to increase the player base of their games.

In March 2020, the company did the same with R6 and the month turned out to be the best in the game’s history, with an average player count of 119K and a peak of over 198K. The numbers dropped in the months to follow their usual average.

The game’s vocal community, active streamers, professional players, and ongoing tournaments are also a part of what continues to define R6 as one of the leaders in the first-person shooter genre.

As with the previous March, current peak numbers R6 is experienced now will certainly lower a bit with the end of the free weekend. However, the game will likely still experience growth. Moreover, A fifth of a million players logged-in in simultaneously on Steam is no small feat.
