NRG enter mobile esports for the first time in four years by fielding a PUBG Mobile squad with the help of Samsung.

NRG Reveal New PUBG Mobile Team

North American esports organization NRG is one of the most popular franchises on the continent and fields players in several titles. This portfolio has recently grown to include PUBG: Mobile as NRG announced its official entry into the game following a collaboration with electronics manufacturer Samsung.

Named NRG Galaxy, the new squad will be working with Samsung to create various types of content and compete in the PUBG Mobile esports ecosystem. The new squad will be equipped with Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones to use in competitions and during practice sessions. NRG Galaxy’s players are: David “Spec” Guzman, Jonathan “J7” Galaviz, Cristian “Fate” Figueroa, and Tyler “Telli” Ellison.

The reveal of the team is the culmination of a partnership that started back in March this year. Back then, the two entities announced they would be working together on creating and fielding a PUBG squad, with Samsung having naming rights and being the exclusive partner.

For NRG, this collaboration marks the first time that NRG has competed in mobile esports since 2019. The new squad is also the fifth team that the organization is fielding as NRG also has teams in VALORANT, League of Legends, Rocket League, and CS2 to which NGR returned in November 2023, when they announced a re-entry into the game.

Meanwhile, Samsung further grows its already significant presence in the wider esports scene. In the past few years, the company has partnered with the likes of Nordic esports organization GODSENT and the TELUS Esports Series, a Canadian esports circuit.

Officials Talk About the Reveal

Jaime Cohenca, General Manager at NRG, was keen to point out that the org’s return to mobile gaming is not only that but also a leap into the future of esports. “And with Samsung Galaxy by our side, it is clear we are not just participants- but are pioneers, leading the way in technology and high-performance gameplay,” Cohenca further explained.

Simon Callan, Head of Mobile Marketing Partnerships, Influencer and DTC Promotions at Samsung Electronics America also spoke about the deal. “Open collaboration along with pushing limits of what’s possible are at the heart of the Samsung Galaxy brand, and we are proud to expand our partnership with NRG in our aim to help make mobile-first eSports mainstream,” he said, further pointing out how the collaboration will give the players the best technology to support their play.
