  • Players find it extremely annoying with the game’s backfill system
  • They argue the game should immediately end if an entire team leaves, instead of wasting time
  • Some even suggested that Blizzard should ban those players who leave early

Overwatch 2 fans have had it enough with players who leave early in Quick Play games and are demanding that Blizzard do something about the problem.

Fans Once Again Criticize an Overwatch 2 Feature

Players that leave mid-game are a constant problem in every multiplayer title, and Overwatch 2 is no exception to that. This does not help the fact that fans have been critical of the way Blizzard is handling the game, with their frustration over various issues reaching a boiling point from time to time.

This happened recently over the previously stated leaver problem, as some fans in the Overwatch subreddit discussing the idea of getting compensation for the infuriating problem. Currently, when an entire matchmade team leaves in Quick Play, the lobby will continue for around 10 to 15 seconds before coming to a close. This may not seem like a long time, but when adding the fact that the match is considered a total write-up, many players see it as a total waste of time. The issue is further exacerbated by the fact that there are not even any postgame statistics added as rewards.

“I’ve had so many QP games that I’ve backfilled where the ENTIRE team had quit,” the OP complained. “They should just give the other team a win and end the game.” Although the game does end if an entire team leaves, many fans still find it frustrating, even if it’s just Quick Play.

Many players agreed with the OP and even said that there should be harsher punishments for constant leavers, even bans. Instead, Blizzard’s latest updates boasted that Overwatch 2 has seen 250 000 banned cheaters since it launched last year. The company also revealed it has changed the chat functions in order to “foster a Safe and Inclusive Social Experience”.

However, others rebutted by saying that punishments shouldn’t be too harsh, or at least they should come only for those who leave very often.

“I mean yeah, maybe if you’re constantly quitting it makes sense. But leaving a game here and there when it’s a casual mode (like you said) is fine imo,” one comment reads. “If you’re trying to learn widow and the enemy team decides to pick something just to hard counter you, it kind of makes sense to leave if you’re not able to have fun or learn much.”

It’s important to note that Overwatch 2 already has a penalty system in place for Quick Play quitters. Anyone who quits a game early (in this case, before reaching the Victory or Defeat screen) more than a few times, will receive a 75% reduction in all experience gains for a certain length of time.

However, Blizzard may need to rethink this system, as the community seems to agree that it’s currently not sufficient to discourage early leavers.
