  • Liquid purchased STUN.GG and its teams – ECHO and AURA
  • The squads will be rebranded to Team Liquid ID and Team Liquid PH, respectively
  • We found that partner in the staff and fans of AURA/ECHO,” Liquid’s CEO said

As Mobile Legends Bang Bang continues to grow, Team Liquid is keen on getting into action by acquiring teams for the MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines.

Team Liquid Announce Deal

Team Liquid is one of the most prominent organizations in esports, fielding competitive rosters in various disciplines. Recently, this outreach has expanded as Liquid entered Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) after acquiring Southeast Asian esports organization STUN.GG. The brand comes with its two MLBB teams AURA Esports and ECHO Esports, which will be rebranded as Team Liquid ID and Team Liquid PH, respectively. Said rebranding will happen ahead of the next season of MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines.

Both teams compete in the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) ecosystem. This is the game’s tier-one circuit, which includes the previously mentioned franchised leagues MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines. Team Liquid has not revealed any financial details about the new deal.

Out of the two divisions, ECHO has recorded the most success. The team has won the M4 World Championship and MPL Philippines Season 11 in 2023. Meanwhile, AURA Esports’ highest positions in MPL Indonesia are consecutive third-place finishes in 2022 (MPL ID Season 9 and 10). Although not as high as its sister team, these are still some pretty impressive stats. Furthermore, both teams have a large and dedicated fandom. The social media following of ECHO and AURA across multiple platforms totals over 10m followers.

In addition to the rebranding, the existing staff of AURA and ECHO will join Team Liquid’s global business. Furthermore, Liquid stated that the purchase of STUN.GG will provide its properties with more resources to grow in Southeast Asia.

Why Did Liquid Decide On This Move?

The organization has entered one of the fastest-growing esports in the world. MLBB’s tournaments often compare or in some cases even surpass the viewership of more established MOBA titles, such as League of Legends. According to Esports Charts, last year’s M5 World Championship recorded over 5 million concurrent viewers at one time.

Victor Goossens, Co-CEO of Team Liquid, said the company has always admired the intensity and loyalty of fans in Indonesia and the Philippines. “When we saw an opportunity to strengthen our presence in Southeast Asia with these incredible competitive teams, we knew we had to do it with an organization built with the same values and philosophy as our own. We found that partner in the staff and fans of AURA/ECHO,” he further explained.
