Wild Rift’s First Global Tournament

League of Legends: Wild Rift, the hugely popular mobile version of Riot’s flagship game League of Legends, will have its first worldwide tournament in November. This was announced earlier this month by Wild Rift, who also stated the location of the tournament to be Singapore.

Leo Faria, Head of Wild Rift esports, revealed the event’s half a million-dollar prize pool in a video on Wild Rift’s official channel. “The top ten teams will compete for a $500,000 prize pool and the glory of being the first team to win an international Wild Rift esports competition.”, he said in the video statement.

In recent years, mobile gaming has been becoming more and more popular in East and South-East Asia. With ESA announcing its endorsement of Wild Rift last month, tons of players buckled up to try and get into the future tournament.

What Else Do We Know About the Tournament?

There are ten teams, who will be competing for the grand prize of $500,000 in this fall’s first global tournament. Five teams have already qualified for the tournament, with the other five slots still open for new arrivals. These are the five confirmed teams and where they come from:

  • Da Kun Gaming – China
  • KT Rolster – South Korea
  • Team Queso – Europe
  • Sengoku Gaming – Japan
  • eBRO Gaming – South America

The other five teams will be decided in the following events:

  • One team from the Wild Rift League (WRL) – China
  • Two teams from the Southeast Asia Championship – SEA
  • One team from the Wild Rift Summoner Series – NA
  • One team from the Wild Tour – Brazil

The Horizon Cup will start on November 13 and will last eight days with its final on November 21. It is revealed that Singapore is going to be the event’s host city with the venue being the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre.

It is yet unknown how the money from the prize pool will be divided between winners and runners-up, however, it is confirmed that MVPs will receive some extra rewards.
