  • He replaces 30-year-old Lee “Easyhoon” Ji-hoon
  • Deany had previously worked with the world-champion roster of DAWMON KIA in 2020

Following a disastrous exit from the 2023 LPL Spring Split, Weibo Gaming plans to shake things up by signing former world champions coach Yang “Daeny” Dae-in.

Weibo Gaming Sign Deany

Esports organizations are always looking to get the upper hand over their opponents by bringing on board the best players and staff they can get their hands on. The Chinese organization Weibo Gaming understands this well and this is why it is acquiring one of the most decorated coaches in League of Legends esports.

On May 16, Weibo Gaming announced the signing of Yang “Daeny” Dae-in at the position of the new head coach for the LPL team. The 20-year-old Korean LoL professional will be leading the team for the rest of the season, with Weibo hoping he will be a key figure in their attempt to snatch the Worlds 2023.

Daeny comes to Weibo’s rescue following the organization’s exit at the 2023 LPL Spring Split. The team finished in sixth place, which caused it to part ways with its old head coach Lee “Easyhoon” Ji-hoon. Considering Weibo has a roster filled with some of the most talented players in the Chinese league, the team was unable to achieve the expected results, prompting them to think the problem might be in the coaching staff.

That being said, it’s not like all the blame could be put on the shoulders of Easyhoon. Weibo Gaming didn’t perform much better in 2022, being unable to finish in the top three spots of any of the tournaments it participated in. Despite Easyhoon being at the helm of the team for the entirety of the year, Weibo also went through several roster shuffles, which could have negatively impacted the team’s performance.

Not all is doom and gloom, however, as the organization had a few bright moments in recent months. Namely, Weibo Gaming, under Easyhoon’s leadership, managed to win the Weibo Cup 2022 in early January. The organization further won all of its matches at the LPL Spring 2023 Group Stage but was ousted by Bilibili Gaming in a one-sided encounter at the tournament’s playoffs.

Weibo now hopes that Daeny will bring the team a much-needed change. The 30-year-old coach has worked with the world-champion roster of DAWMON KIA in 2020, before joining T1 for the 2021 season. However, the team didn’t perform as well as expected, so Deany was removed in the middle of the 2021 LCK Summer Split. As a result, he ended up going back to DWG KIA, where he stayed until the end of 2022.

Despite that, Weibo is hoping that Deany’s experience with top-ranking teams would be enough. The 2023 LPL Summer Split will start after the Mid-Season Invitational, but the starting date has yet to be confirmed.
