  • League of Legends’ next patch will be released in about a week
  • Riot Phroxzon outlined what the upcoming changes will be
  • They will include various quality-of-life changes and a slew of item adjustments

Riot is still making changes to the newest items in LoL, as the next patch will be focused on nerfing a large number of them.

Phroxzon Previews Upcoming Changes

League of Legends’ Season 14 started just a couple of weeks ago, but Riot Games has been busy making various adjustments to the game. The studio has already released a couple of patches and micropatches and is gearing up for the release of Patch 14.3 which is set to be released in about a week’s time.

In preparation for the occasion, LoL’s Lead Designer Preseason Matt Leung-Harrison, a.k.a. Riot Phroxzon, took to Twitter to talk a bit about what’s coming up. According to him, the dev team is currently happy with various aspects of the game, such as game length and objective power, so the patch will focus on quality-of-life changes and a slew of item adjustments.

Despite not many champions being nerfed directly in the next patch, it should be noted that a large portion of them would be affected by the item changes. Said changes revolve mainly around the reduction of burst damage, which AD Assassins and Mages deal, so in effect, the next patch will see them do less of it.

“14.3 will bring further reductions to burst damage from items to correct this. For some items, that reduction in burst will be added back to the AP to be interpreted by the champion’s ratios (eg. Ludens/Stormsurge), for others, it will just be a straight nerf,” Phroxzon wrote.

Perhaps these changes should come as no surprise to anyone, as the new item meta was the big deal when Patch 14.1 dropped on January 10. It introduced a lot of new things into the game and changed others a lot, which shifted the meta quite a bit. This made characters such as Fizz dominate the Summoner’s Rift, and even the few micropatches that Riot released in the last couple of weeks don’t seem to have had the wanted balancing effect. Meanwhile, AD champions like Miss Fortune scored a huge win rate (standing at 53% at the time of writing of this article), necessitating Riot’s current targeting of the aforementioned items.

That being said, some champions, that have been storing for some time, will be receiving direct nerfs with the arrival of Patch 14.3. “Champions with %maxHP damage that benefit from everyone having more HP (Lillia, Brand) and pro champs like Azir, Karma (we overbuffed here),” Phroxzon wrote. Rengar will also get nerfed since he double benefitted from the Hubris + Profane buffs.

Patch 14.3 will be launched on February 7 and here are the times when this will happen:

  • Oceania: 10 am AEST
  • North America: 3 am PT
  • Europe West: 5 am GMT
  • Europe Nordic and East: 3 am CET
  • South Korea: 8 am KR
