  • Rekkles blames himself a lot for Fnatic’s failures
  • Team Heretics’ Jankos also gave his thoughts on Fnatic’s difficult situation
  • He said he had seen the same problem in his former team G2 Esports

Rekkles blames his poor performance for Fnatic’s poor performance recently, while Heretic’s Jankos says Fnatic isn’t playing strong meta champions.

Rekkles Blames Himself

With the first stages of the 2023 LEC coming to a close, it’s time for teams to take stock of what they have achieved so far and plan for the rest of the year. Of course, with every competition, there are victors and losers, and it seems Fnatic is of the latter so far in this year’s competitive League of Legends season.

The European team had a disastrous start to the 2023 LEC season, failing to make it past the first single round-robin to the group stage. With such a performance, many wondered what went wrong in the team and Fnatic’s bot laner Martin “Rekkles” Larsson seems to think a lot of the blame for the team’s failures should be on him.

In a raw video posted on Twitter, the Swedish player apologized to all his fans and explained his thoughts and feelings following their loss against SK Gaming during the LEC Winter 2023 week 3 day 2. “I really wanted to say sorry for not being able to deliver,” he said. “I haven’t played good. I don’t think I have been able to contribute much to the team’s success. On the contrary, I think I probably contributed more to the team’s failures.”

Jankos Also Shares his Thoughts

Fnatic’s poor performance did not go unnoticed by other professionals as well. Team Heretics’ Jankos had a few things to say as well, explaining that he sees problems similar to his former team G2 Esports when the squad had too many strong personalities in 2021.

“I’m not sure if it’s personality issues but… I saw similar problems in G2 in 2021. I think that they don’t really have like a lot of ideas on how to like play games,” the Polish said. “They need to like find two people or like one person to play around on.”

Jankos doesn’t seem to blame Fnatic’s failures in this LEC on Rekkles. Instead, he thinks there is also a big emphasis on the team’s mid and jungle. “If I had to blame Fnatic players from an outside perspective, you’d probably blame jungle-mid mostly, and support maybe,” he said. “There is more to it than just that.”

That being said, Jankos did not let Rekkles completely off the hook. He said that the Swedish bot lane is not playing AD carries that are powerful in the current meta, going back to his earlier statements that. Jankos also mentioned that Fnatic didn’t seem to have this problem last year when they had Upset.

Whatever the root or roots of Fnatic’s mishaps so far in this year’s competitive League season are, the team will have to have a long think about what to improve.
