  • The 36-year-old LoL dev announced he will not be active on social media
  • He explained there has been a sharp increase in toxic comments recently
  • It’s unknown when or if he will return to being active on social platforms

Phreak is one of the most recognizable faces in League of Legends, but players won’t be seeing much of him anymore as he announced he is taking a step back from all social media.

Phreak Quits the Net

Everybody knows there can be a lot of toxicity in gaming. We’ve all seen the occasional a-hole in chat, or have even sometimes been the ones to diss the enemy team or be too harsh when we criticize our own teammate’s ineptitudes. However, it seems some members of the gaming community receive a lot more toxicity than usual.

Former League of Legends caster-turned-developer, David “Phreak” Turley is one of the most recognizable faces in the LoL global community. Over the years, he has been quite active on various social media platforms in communicating the constant changes that Riot Games is making ot the game. However, this seems to have also exposed the 36-year-old gaming celebrity to a ton of toxic behavior.

It seems that he has finally had enough as in a recent video on his YouTube channel, Phreak said he would be quitting social media due to the large amounts of toxicity he had received. “I am more or less going to quit social media for the immediate future,” the LoL celebrity said in the video. “The amount of toxicity has risen so sharply that it’s not worth me seeing the occasionally useful comment amidst all the death threats. So it is what it is.”

Perhaps it should not come as a surprise that Phreak has come to this decision. He has been one of the main faces of Riot Games over the years and therefore he has been on the receiving end of any criticisms that the company has received. The 36-year-old has been a League caster since 2009 and after years on the commenting table he became a developer in December of 2022.

Since then, Phreak has explained changes to the game in his videos on YouTube and other platforms. Unfortunately, since he essentially became the face of the Riot balance team, he became the punching bag for all the negative comments the LoL community may have toward changes.

It is unknown when, or even if Phreak will return to social media, but a rest from toxicity will do him good. Perhaps we should all think a bit more about how we handle others online and what consequences our words can have.

From our 5 star review…

“In fact, we would argue that Bitcasino’s esports product is one of the best we have experienced. It’s simple, clear-cut, and offers a variety of products and options that other platforms are failing to deliver on.”
