  • Faker is one of the most popular League of Legends players ever
  • Riot’s Hall of Legends honors the most influential LoL pros in the world
  • The player’s career is more than a decade long and he continues to be a prominent figure in LoL

An international commission has concluded that Faker should become the first inductee into the Hall of Legends thanks to his multiple titles.

Faker Enters Hall of Legends

Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok is without a doubt one of the most prominent League of Legends players. The 28-year-old Korean has won the LoL World Championship four times over his career. This has rightfully led to him becoming the first inductee of the League of Legends Hall of Legends.

The Hall of Legends is Riot’s newly established institution to honor the most exceptional players in League history. Introduced in Riot’s 2024 State of the Game update, the new structure will serve to pay homage to players and coaches who have significantly contributed to the growth and evolution of esports. Many fans speculated who the first LoL pro to be inducted would be, but few were surprised when Riot announced it was Faker.

Selecting the Korean player for the honor of being the first inductee into the new Hall of Legends was a result of a rigorous process. judges representing regional leagues and global esports communities evaluated a list of induction candidates by collaborating with Riot Games across League’s competitive regions. This resulted in a list of 20 players which was presented, along with a list of criteria, to 50 global panelists covering every competitive region, who then voted on the final inductees.

What Are the Player’s Achievements?

Since his debut in 2013, Faker has gone on to become one of the most recognizable names in League of Legends and esports. While playing for esports organization T1, he has won a remarkable 10 LCK titles, a region that’s widely considered to produce some of the best pro LoL players in the world.

However, he has not stopped at that as he also has two Mid-Season Invitational titles and four Worlds Championship trophies under his belt. This has rightfully earned him the nickname “The Unkillable Demon King”. To this day, Faker is the oldest player to win a World Cup, a record he broke when he played at the event in late 2022. Said age comes with a ton of experience, meaning he will continue to be a prominent figure in high-level competitive LoL.

John Needham, President of Esports at Riot Games, explained that Faker has become a hugely influential player in League of Legends and esports history. “His name is synonymous with excellence in League of Legends esports, and he has rightfully earned his place as our very first Hall of Legends inductee. We hope that he continues to make history for many years to come,” Needham explained.

Now that Faker has become the first inductee into the new Hall of Legends, many fans start wondering who will come after him.
