  • Henceforth, the competition will be known as Die Techniker Prime League

  • Financial terms and the length of the deal have not been disclosed

The Prime League continues to grow as the regional competition has acquired a new major sponsor in the face of health insurance company Die Techniker Krankenkasse.

Oraginzer Freaks 4U Gaming Sign Deal

Smaller regional competitions are paramount for many games and League of Legends is no exception. They serve as some of the first events that teams from various regions use to enter professional LoL. The Prime League is one such competition and it serves the DACH region (Germany-Austria-Switzerland), which is essentially every German-speaking country on the continent. Organized by Riot Games and esports tournament operator Freaks 4U Gaming, it was recently announced that German statutory health insurance company Die Techniker Krankenkasse has become the competition’s title sponsor.

“The dawn of a new era in the German League of Legends scene – with a focus on supporting mental and physical health!” a translation of the Twitter announcement of the event reads. The deal will see the Prime League be renamed to Die Techniker Prime League. The sponsor will also focus on campaigns that aim to destigmatize mental health problems and support healthy behaviors.

Head of Product Management at Freaks 4U Gaming Julia Weitzel said the organizer welcomes Die Techniker Krankenkasse in the new partnership. She also noted that both Freaks and TK are well-positioned as leaders within their respective industries which drive and shape the future.

“Mental and physical health is an important topic that has seen an elevated awareness in esports and gaming in recent years, we are pleased to have a stronger partner like TK to join us in advocating healthcare and self-care which creates a thriving, sustainable ecosystem,” Weitzel also stated.

The Prime League Has Grown A Lot

League of Legends’ regional European structure has undergone many changes over the past few years. The Prime League is no exception to that, as it was previously called the Premier Tour when it was first founded in 2020. Over the years, it has grown significantly and now encompasses more than 6000 players from the DACH region.

Perhaps the Prime League’s collaboration with TK, considering the former’s growth. Also, it and the health insurance company had previously joined forces at the end of the 2023 Summer Split, with TK present during the playoffs and off-season. Alongside it, the Prime League has also named bank Deutsche Kreditbank, KitKat, non-alcoholic beer Bitburger 0.0%, telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom, and insurance company R+V Versicherung as sponsors for 2024, further showing the region’s development.

“In fact, we would argue that Bitcasino’s esports product is one of the best we have experienced. It’s simple, clear-cut, and offers a variety of products and options that other platforms are failing to deliver on.”
