Several former LEC Most Valuable Player award winners discuss who they think should win the coveted MVP award for the LEC Summer Split 2022.

The Coveted Title

With the conclusion of the LEC’s Summer Split, fans are now awaiting to see six LoL teams compete at the Playoffs stage. It will conclude on Sept. 11 in Malmö, Sweden, where the Summer Split LEC award winners will be revealed.

Every season sees the LEC honoring players who have shined throughout the season in various categories. The one category that fans follow the most is the Most Valuable Player of the Split. Over the years, the LEC has awarded 17 players with the MVP title, most recently Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié during the Spring Split.

Recently he and former MVP winners Caps, Vizicsacsi, Jankos, as well as other professionals, shared their thoughts on who should receive the MVP award for the LEC 2022 Summer Split.

What the Pros Think

The way an MVP is usually chosen is based on their overall impact on their team. However, according to former award winner Jankos, being someone people remember is as important as the overall performance during the season. His teammate caPs also added that bringing “good vibes” to the team is a valuable asset.

Vizicsacsi, on the other hand, thinks the player’s technical skills are far more important in choosing them as an MVP. The Astralis top laner thinks that dictating the tempo of the game, getting control of the map, and knowing what and how to do in teamfights, is the basis on which MVPs should be chosen.

CaPs seems to shine bright on both fronts and this is why he didn’t exclude his own name from the possible candidates for this season’s award. However, in an interview for Dot Esports, he also mentioned that Nisqy, Perkz, and Vetheo are all valid candidates for this season’s MVP title.

CaPs seems to favor G2’s mid laner Nisqy. “From having him on my academy team back in 2017 and also seeing him whenever he’s around, he’s always smiling, always making jokes,” caPs said. “And I think he does a lot to make sure a team doesn’t get frustrated with each other, make sure the team stays positive.”

Speaking of mid laners, Jankos also thinks that caPs and Nisqy are valid MVP candidates, along with Perkz. The latter two helped their teams improve significantly in the past season. Jankos was keen to point out how Nisqy “proved himself” by making MAD Lions “go from not a playoff team to a playoff team” within little time.

Some Go against the Grain

There seems to be a trend amongst the pros’ opinions that a mid laner would win the MVP award. This would be consistent with previous years’ award recipients. Riot has awarded the MVP award to a player in the mid lane on five separate occasions, spread across three players. These are Froggen, who won the award in 2014, Vetheo for spring 2022, and caPs, who award collected the MVP in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

However, Vizicsacsi’s opinion differs from that of his peers. The top laner, who in 2017 became the sole top laner ever to receive the coveted award, said it’s difficult to identify a clear candidate for the MVP title this split. “I feel like during this split there wasn’t an outstanding player that is obviously the MVP,” Vizicsacsi said. “I think it’s very split right now, who to vote for. I think maybe the best approach to it is looking at the top teams and looking at who are the carries of these teams.”

According to him, caPs, Vetheo, and Nisqy have not shown their skills consistently enough every single game, making it more difficult to choose an MVP. “There was not a single player that was always really, really outstanding in every single game,” he said.

Despite his criticisms, Vizicsacsi also listed the same three names as the most likely players to receive the coveted MVP award.

With more than 50 professionals, including players, coaches, broadcasters, and journalists, voting for the MVP winner, all fans have left is to wait to see who the LEC crowns MVP later in the LEC’s Summer Playoffs.
