  • The LCS awarded the team’s coaching staff for their excellent performance
  • The team demonstrated good communication between staff and roster throughout the season
  • CLG has a solid chance to attend the World Championship for the first time since 2016

Continuing its redemption ark, CLG received an award for the best coaching staff during the LCS 2022 Summer Split.

CLG Wins Best Coaching Staff Award

Raising the trophy above your head is obviously the key goal in any tournament, but things like sportsmanship and good plays are often not far behind in importance. Often, titles are given out to organizations and players who have distinguished themselves in other ways than winning the grand prize.

League of Legends esports is no stranger to giving out similar awards, with many pros recently sharing who they think should get the LEC Summer Split 2022 MVP award. Of course, what makes a good player often depends on the support and coaching staff behind them. This is why another league, the LCS, has recently announced that CLG having the best coaching staff for the 2022 Summer Split.

CLG had demonstrated a significant turnaround this season, with the team posting its first positive record in three years this summer. This success was largely due to the teachings of head coach Thomas “Thinkcard” Slotkin, who played the jungle position for CLG between 2014 and 2016. He was assisted by Chris “Croissant” Sun on the team’s staff. Additionally, the organization hired former professionals like Brandon “Brandini” Chen, Apollo Price and Tanner Damonte, to serve as positional specialists for CLG’s starting players.

This summer marks CLG’s first winning split since the summer of 2019. With a score of 11-7 in the regular season, this split was the franchise’s best in three seasons. The team’s efforts were rewarded with a trip to the playoffs after CLG faced Cloud9 this weekend, breaking viewership records in the process. Although falling to C9 in the extremely heated five-game match, CLG still has enough points to appear in the playoffs for the first time since 2019.

CLG’s success is also largely due to the solid roster composition the organization managed to make. After experimenting with its roster in the Spring Split, CLG’s core five of Dhokla, Contractz, Palafox, Luger, and Poome played all 18 games of the split.

CLG’s coaching staff will once again have to prove itself by helping the roster again this weekend when the team faces off the Golden Guardians for their postseason lives in a lower bracket match. If CLG manages to perform well at all four rounds of the postseason’s lower bracket, they will be able to attend the World Championship for the first time since 2016.
