This year’s NHL Gaming World Championship will be hosted by DreamHack Sports Games, as the league seeks a setup closer to that of the real-world event.

NHL Calls on DreamHack Sports Games for Gaming World Championship

DreamHack will bring its expertise in hosting esports events to the National Hockey League (NHL) through its dedicated DreamHack Sports Games arm. As a result, DreamHack will be in charge of hosting and developing events for EA’s NHL simulator game, assisting the North American ice-hockey league in reaching out to younger generations. 

DreamHack Sports Games will see to the upcoming NHL Gaming World Championship hosted in March. The NHL hopes to re-create a more lifelike experience that resembles the real league format and competitive setup. 

Commenting on this development, NHL Vice President of Business Development and Innovation Chris Golier said that the Gaming World Championship had been an important driver of audiences. Golier explained that the organization had seen stronger engagement with fans worldwide thanks to the esports initiative.

“This partnership with DreamHack Sports Games will help to strengthen our brand in the gaming ecosystem as they provide world-class production resources and longstanding relationships in the industry,” Golier added. 

MTG’s DreamHack Sports Games has been particularly active, striking numerous partnerships to help mainstream sports organizations reach out to gamers. The company has teamed up with the European Tour for digital golf series, and with eManager for a fantasy esports game for FIFA, another EA sports simulator. 

Commenting on the partnership, DreamHack Sports Games CEO Roger Lodewick welcomed the opportunity, arguing that it was a rite of passage for the organization. A confirmation that all the hard work has paid off, Lodewick explained. 

“We’re genuinely proud and privileged to work with the NHL team to produce and jointly sell these amazing NHL esports properties,” he added.
